ABOUT THE CLIENT

Coopers Croft Vineyard have been making wine in the village of Wickenbrook, Suffolk for around 5 years. They have grown from having 300 vines to 1,000 vines over 1 acre, all individually tended to by hand. Nick and Jennie manage, maintain and prune the vineyard themselves, working with local businesses to complete the process of bottling and labelling the wine. In 2017, their signature Rosé won a bronze medal in the East Anglian Wine Awards!

BRIEF

After visiting the vineyard and discussing the project, the client wanted to brand and promote their wine with the aim of getting the product sold in local restaurants, public houses and shops. Their target market was predominantly the nearby horse racing town of Newmarket and surrounding areas. They wanted their new identity to be personal and represent the local, homegrown element. The new identity would initially be applied to wine labels, packaging, outdoor signage and business cards.

CONCEPT

Including the local, homegrown element was a prominent part of achieving the right identity for the vineyard. I loved how the couple tendered to the 1,000 vines by hand and virtually completed the whole process themselves. Using photography of the vineyard for inspiration, I wanted to personalise there brand on another level, by loosely representing the owners harvesting the grapes. This was hand drawn, then converted into a digital illustration with further tweaks to achieve the desired outcome.

An alternative concept the client was drawn to was the idea of incorporating a horse ‘hoof’ print, to tie in with their target location of Newmarket. The ‘V’ from within the hoof print also resembles a heart shape, adding emphasis to shop local.

Bedford Lodge Hotel (Newmarket), The Weeping Willow (Barrow) and many local restaurants to Wickenbrook, all stock the award winning wine.
